24/7 Prayer

I have decided to take action on things happening in South Africa. This year the Fifa World Cup is located in South Africa and begins June 11 and goes to July 11. For this event, forty thousand prostitutes will be transported to South Africa for the pleasure of the 50 thousand soccer tourist. Which means, for every five men, four girls wait to be abused and used. You can see the problems that present itself with this event. I am not here to boycott Fifa, I am here to offer support. Support to the thousands of women and children that are sex trafficked each day. The problem seems overwhelming, I want to suggest prayer.

In a situation that is not ideal, the support that can be offered is the encouragement of believers uniting in prayer over the coarse of this event. What better way for them to know they are loved and accepted by an amazing God.

At a time when profit is huge and all of these girls are going to be put through hell, God is there to meet them. Join me and others in a movement to pray for these girls 24/7 for the entire time of the world cup (no potty breaks).

This might sound crazy, praying for 30 days straight non stop. Actually this will be done a little differently. I am asking for people (maybe you?) to take shifts consisting of thirty minutes. During this time, you can read the Bible, do devotionals, sing songs of acceptance, and pray. The theme of this time is offering prayer for girls to know they are accepted and loved.

I broke the month into 4 sections:

week 1: pray for women to know they are accepted

week 2: pray for the next generation of girls to know they are loved and accepted

week 3: pray for these sexually abused girls to have courage and see God’s love through all of this

week 4:  pray for the prostitution business in Africa and abroad to come to a stand still

These sections are not built in stone they are merely a guide to help anyone who is unsure how to start this prayer session.

Lets join together in prayer to raise awareness, pray for these girls, and learn to conquer this disease of never feeling good enough.

If you would like to volunteer to pray there are a couple ways to get involved.

Sweeetttt did you fill out the sign up sheet?

Parsh

Really?
You’re taking action by praying? If you’re so worried about it go there and protest.
Prayer does nothing but waste time.

scarletcordministries

Thanks for your concerns Parsh.
I would love to be able to be there, not necessarily to protest, but to serve. Unfortunately I do not have the money to travel (I am just small organization that is not funded).

I do not believe Prayer I a waste of time. I feel that prayer is an act of support towards the girls and the community that is uniting in prayer. It is an active response to a problem that continues to grow out of control. Unfortunately, myself nor anyone else can provide these girls the support and love that they need, only God can provide this. I want to be apart of that love and support and therefore am in constant prayer for all women and children that are being trafficked daily.

I do understand though that you are entitled to your thoughts.
Thanks for reading.

YOU GO GIRL!!! I’m sooo proud of you! I just have to say, it is an honor to have stood by this chic since kindergarten. Love you, Kam. God is working through you and you are making a difference. Like I said, you go girl. 🙂

It is so true, Parsh. Prayer literally moves mountains. God can solve a problem in 5 seconds that would take us years – decades, even, to accomplish. He is an awesome, loving God that wants to bless us if we just ask Him and trust Him! 🙂

And He loves you too and wants to bless your socks off! 🙂

I’m with you girl, praying works to confront the evil that is taking place at the World Cup, 4 hours from where I am at! Let’s stand together to ask God to confront this problem and bring awareness all around the world.

i love what you are doing, kamrie!

since everyone knows i’m “from” south africa, people are often talking to me about the world cup — and how great it is for the country. my heart always aches because of the negative impact the world cup will make (is making) and most people have no idea what’s going on. thank you for raising awareness of such an ignored and tabooed issue. and for rallying the body of Christ to pray.

we can make an eternal difference from right here… on our knees.

(i’ll be signing up!)

Exactly. This matter is terrible, but at the same time I love seeing so many Christians coming together willing to pray for these girls over all and love them. I am able to see some type of weird loving community willing to reach out with prayer! And it is Awesome

I’m happy to sign up for this – in my previous job I worked for the Salvation Army, and we were terribly aware of the level of prostitution and trafficking that took place at the German World Cup. Everything I’ve read and heard about the SA event doesn’t exactly show any improvement.

And Parsh, with all due respect, I appreciate your perspective, but I’ve seen first hand how prayer changes things. Your concept that people pray but do nothing ‘practical’ at the same time is very old-fashioned and not a little myopic. We do what we can, and we support those who can do even more than us. Turning up and protesting is what achieves very little – heard of Fred Phelps at all? It all just becomes a shouting match and I know of very few instances where physical protests have actually changed anything for the good. Prostitution and trafficking are global and complex issues, not just something that exists in SA, so single-site protests won’t work. It’s only ever a token act at best. Whereas only God can change the hearts and mindsets of people. You may find that simplistic, but I know it to be true.

Kamrie – thank you for setting this up. And for everyone that does sign up, it probably won’t do us any harm to see what else we can do to help as well, and if we can help more organisations on the ground, like Thrive Africa, or The Salvation Army (insert more NFP’s as necessary) 🙂

I am glad to see so many people excited about this. I have maybe one more organization that specifiacally deals with prostitutes and they are trying to broaden their horrizons to the rest of the world. This organization is called Rapha’s House. Currently they are located in south east Asia. This organization is a great safe haven for girls who are sexually abused. S Also there is another organization that helps these girls in Russia called HopeChest I believe. It would be great to add these to ministries to the prayer list as you pray and just ask God to guide them in their upcoming decisions.

Thanks for calling me. I will send your blog and this article I just read (that makes me not just sick, but ashamed to be living in a cocoon) http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1952335,00.html to my friends and family. My family follows World Cup soccer, but they are not aware of this angle.

I’m in! I signed up for one slot but will be praying more! This is dear to my heart because 1.) my husband and girls looooooove soccer, and we’ll be watching as much of the World Cup as possible and 2.) my husband and I are traveling to Cambodia for 10 days in July to visit a friend who works with a ministry that rescues girls and women out of human trafficking. Bless you for what you’re doing! I’ll be praying for you too, as I know you’ll face lots of opposition from the enemy. You can do all things through Christ who gives you strength!!

4 06 2010
scarletcordministries

Are you going to Cambodia with a organization for Rapha House? My dad and I will be going to Cambodia also in August. I am so excited!

4 06 2010
Marla Taviano

Our church actually supports an Asia’s Hope orphanage over there, so we’ll be spending a lot of time with the orphans. But our friend Jen will be taking us to see what her ministry is doing. I don’t think it’s Rapha House. She has only mentioned the name of it to me once in person. She doesn’t write about it on her blog because of the sensitive nature of what they do.

Here’s her blog though if you want to check it out:

My husband designed her site. He’s a web designer.

I’m spreading the word about what you’re doing!!

I just came in contact with this woman this week via Flickr (what she does during the World Cup is copied below). I will be sharing this with her, praying, and waiting for God to move. Thanks for sharing this!

“We need all the prayers we can get. I am responsible for hospitality which includes 8500 village guests, 4500 Stadium guests and 1500 VIPs. We’ve encountered many challenges, including strikes. Please pray for security and for the general smooth running of the entire tournament. We live in the last days and we know the enemy is hungry. Thank you so much for your kind offer of prayer. I know it will carry us all through.”

Warm regards and Blessings from Cape Town.

Kamrie, this is awesome. This issue has always pulled on my heartstrings, knowing we are close to the same age as the girls that have to go through this awful torture breaks my heart. I wish there was more we could do, and I am so jealous that you get to go to Cambodia in August! That kind of mission trip is one I have always wanted to go on. Put me in any time slot(s) you need filled–I am more than happy to help!

6 06 2010
scarletcordministries

Thanks for realizing this. Sometimes we forget about what is going on outside of our little world. That really encourages me to know you see these girls and relate it to yourself. I would probably need you to pray for 3-3:30pm daily. If you can do this that would be great!

Kamrie,
I am so proud of you. It didn’t surprise me though, that you would take on something like this, as you have always had a heart for serving. You can count on me to pray anytime you need me. Infact, I will start today. I know thru prayer, we can all make a difference, as God is good. May God Bless you and keep you safe as you help others, thru this ministry.

Thanks for the volunteering! Would you be ok with doing 2:30 to 3:00 pm or 6:30-7:00 pm daily? If you could do either of these times it would be great.

Yes, I could do the 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm, daily.

Hey Kamrie!
I think this is totally amazing and I think it’s so cool how much work and effort you’ve put into this. I think your hard work and dedication, and our prayers can really make an impact in the world. I know God will bless you for your service and your love for others. I’m really excited to be a part of this and I believe that God will do great things! I was wondering if you had any other things like bible readings, or verses, or things that we could also do during our time intervals. If you could send me some ideas that would be great!
Thanks,

Thanks Taylor. Here are some Bible chapters.. Hosea, Jeremiah 1, Psalms chapters, Revelation 21 22 and I think there are some devotional ideas like books called the princess. I am also sure your mom has a bunch of devotional things geared on acceptance. If you have any more questions I am more than happy to answer them!

Hi Steven,
Here are some of my sources that I have seen talking about the estimate of 40 thousand prostitutes being imported into South Africa….
http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/sports/100505/world-cup-sex-workers
http://soccerlens.com/legalizing-prostitution-for-world-cup-2010/5660/

Sex trafficking is also very hard to follow because it is mostly done in secret so they can not say for a fact that exactly 40 thousand prostitutes will be in South Africa. It could be way more than expected or way less.
As for my ratio for every 5 men there are 4 prostitutes this was based on an average of the stadiums capacity to hold all of the soccer fans. Here is the website for those numbers…
http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/destination/stadiums/index.html

If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Hey chick-a-dee,
I am so completely down for praying for these young girls. And my friend Tori and I were talking and we wanna get like a corporate prayer groups at someone’s house going because “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them” (Matt. 18:20). He is the God who created the universe…He is the God who then saved the universe with His son… He can do huge, incredible things in the lives of these young women. I pray his HOPE and LOVE are revealed to them through our prayers and PLEADING for them… He is mighty to save!!! Thanks girl for informing us of this so we can take action…

Kamrie –
I looked for you in church today to give you a copy of an article I found, but I will e-mail it to you. It emphasizes what is going on with human-trafficking.
Thank you for serving in this way and allowing me to join in prayer. I am believing for awesome results. Praying for you, too. May God continue to grow you in His love and grace. I don’t know if you can post the article. If not, have people add Andre Lombard to the prayer list. He and his volunteers work to help rescue enslaved prostitutes in South Africa. They definitely need God’s protection and the support of many.
Blessings!

My heart is filled with a compassion for these young girls who are under Satan’s trickery and wicked ways. However, I am in awe of how God is taking control through people like you with an awareness and heart to serve. Thank you for being His servant and bringing this to my attention. I am humbled to pray for this cause and loss of innocence these girls are living through…their lives will be forever changed. It appears that the time slot between12:30 and 1:00 p.m. has not been filled if I am reading the information correctly so I will utilize that time for now on a daily basis. If you need to put me in a different 30 minute span please feel free to propose an alternative time to see if it is workable. You will certainly be included in those prayers along with the entire ministry you are building. May HIS GLORY ABOUND in ways we thought were impossible, Linda

Thanks for volunteering. This time slot would be a perfect time for you to pray. Thanks for your willingness to pray for these girls and this ministry. You are completely right when you say God works in ways that we have already ruled out as impossible. Thanks for the encouragement!
